Baton twirling was introduced to Japan in 1967.  The baton twirling section of the Japan Marching Band and Baton Twirling Association and the Japan Sport Baton Association were merged to establish an independent organization known as the Baton Twirling Association of Japan in March 2013.
 
Purpose:
   The purpose of the association is to contribute towards the development of
   sport, art, and culture in Japan by promoting and conducting baton twirling
   activities.
 
Activities:
   In order to achieve its purpose, the association implements the following
   functions;
  1. Organizes promotional and creative events,
  2. Hosts domestic competitions, contests, seminars, and educational workshops,
  3. Participates in international competitions,
  4. Educates coaches and judges,
  5. Provides certification programs,
  6. Publishes information and research material,
  7. Promotes international exchanges and mutual understanding,
  8. Provides other supportive activities
 
Membership:
   The association establishes the following memberships;
   1.General Membership
       Individuals or groups who agree to the purpose and activities of the
       association, and have been approved
   2.Sponsor Membership
      Individuals or groups who support to the purpose and activities of the
      association, and have been approved
   3.Honorary Membership
      Individuals who have remarkably contributed to the association, and have
      been approved at the General Meeting
 
The Fundamental Philosophy:
        The purpose of the association is to promote and enhance the qualities of
      baton twirling and, by providing such activities and events, to contribute
      to the development and growth of healthy youth.
        By enhancing one’s artistic sensitivities, which is a unique characteristic 
      of baton twirling, promoting sport competition, and encouraging
      international exchanges, the association operates as Japan’s 
      representative organization to promote the sport internationally.
